Redding, CaliforniaThe city of Redding is a beautiful place, an outdoorsman’s paradise; Majestic Mt. Shasta, Lake Shasta, Whiskeytown Lake, Lassen Volcanic National Park, and the beauty of the California Redwoods all within easy driving distance, and local draws such as Turtle Bay Exploration Park and Museum, and the iconic Sundial Bridge (a suspension bridge which is also a working sundial) add to its charm and beauty.

This city of 91,000 at the northern edge of California’s central valley is also a dark place. A spiritually dark place. It is in the shadow of a huge megachurch, claiming 11,000 members, that is central in the New Apostolic Reformation movement. Thousands of young people come from all over the world every year to be indoctrinated into the errors of third-wave Pentecostalism.

Also to be found in Redding is a small congregation of the OPC, Redding Reformed Fellowship (RRF). A former Baptist congregation that by God’s grace came to an understanding and celebration of the doctrines of grace, RRF is the only confessionally reformed congregation in the area, and after nearly 13 years of renting a meeting space, along with all the restrictions that brings, the Lord has gracious opened the door for us to buy a beautifully restored church building about 15 minutes south of our current location for a fraction of its value.

A permanent location has so many advantages. First and foremost is a sense of permanence, which affects both current members of our congregation and potential future visitors and members. It also allows us the flexibility to create and expand new services, studies, programs, resources, and events like a VBS and teaching opportunities. The possibilities of how we can put this building and the ½ acre on which it sits to use will only become fully apparent as we move in and began to explore what doors the Lord will open for us here.
As a small congregation, finances are a considerable concern. While the Lord has enabled us to secure financing for the purchase, anything we can do to lower the initial cost and pay down the principle on the loan as much as possible as soon as possible is critical.
Therefore we are reaching out to the broader church to join us in establishing this new source of the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Redding area. We ask that you pray about how you and your congregation may be able to help us take this step and secure a place where the reformed faith will be faithfully preached, taught, and lived out for decades to come.
