There are differing views on the subject of birth control in the church; a minority of churches believe that all birth control is forbidden, while most would say that certain methods are allowable while others are not. Basically, any method of birth control that prevents fertilization is acceptable, while those which allow fertilization, but, either through physical, hormonal, or chemical means, prevent implantation of the fertilized egg into the uterus are, in reality, nothing more than very early-term abortions and are therefore forbidden by God’s word.
Protestant Christianity’s view on birth control begins with several presuppositions, all drawn from the scriptures; namely, that man is created in the image of God and bears that image from the moment of conception, and therefore all human life is to be valued and protected; and that children are a heritage from the Lord.
