For a Christian to be able to come to God’s throne of grace and find help in his time of need is a great and humbling privilege. The Bible teaches that Christians can have confidence that God hears us and will answer only when we pray according to his will. Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread, and protection from evil, and that our wills would be accommodated to his will, not the other way around. God is not a genie to fulfil our every whim. To think that way is to show that one’s heart is not right with God. And no, God does not give the slightest indication that he would answer such prayers.
What such an attitude toward prayer does do is show a serious misunderstanding of the purpose of prayer and a self-centered attitude that does not become a child of God.
