According to the teaching of God’s word, our top financial priority is to provide for our family. A biblical understanding of true need and proper contentment will help us to differentiate need from want. Part of providing for our families is to make a provision for the future, at least so that they are not put under undue hardship when we die (I speak as the main breadwinner of my family).
Something that many people do not know is that the Bible knows nothing of retirement. In fact, the concept of retirement as anything approaching what we know today did not exist until the late 1800s.
Charity is an important part of our financial planning, but must not interfere with providing for our family.
